More about Rebecca
Rebecca opened Animates Veterinary Clinic in June 2005 in Thurlby, and continued to develop and re-invest in the practice to ensure it has always been able to provide the best service and care to patients and clients. She has grown it from a one-site practice with four staff to a two-site practice, with a separate exotic clinic with over 40 staff. As well as working as a vet, she is our Business and Strategy Manager working with the team to ensure that Animates remains a successful and progressive practice.
Rebecca studied veterinary medicine at Massey University in New Zealand and qualified in the year 2000. After graduating she started working in mixed rural practice in New Zealand before deciding to concentrate her energies on companion animals when she moved to the UK in 2003. Rebecca has worked in a number of different practices in New Zealand, Ireland and England.
Rebecca enjoys all aspects of first opinion veterinary medicine, is an excellent surgeon and is particularly interested in pain management. She completed an Acupuncture course in 2014 and has also introduced Laser therapy to the practice. Rebecca is currently studying for a BSAVA Ophthalmology Certificate.
Rebecca enjoys a range of different activities including travelling, cycling, diving, music and squash.

More about Katherine
Katherine qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in July 2006 and has worked at mixed and small animal practices in the UK before joining Animates in November 2011. Katherine is our Clinical Excellence Manager ensuring clinical excellence and direction by creating a practice culture based on high quality patient care.
Katherine has a post graduate BSAVA certificate in emergency and critical care which she passed with distinction and is an RCVS recognised advanced practitioner in emergency and critical care. She also has an interest in ultrasonography and is currently working towards an Internal Medicine Certificate.
Katherine enjoys spending time with her husband and their cats Rinca and Flores, horse riding, playing netball and socialising with friends. She has a keen interest in conservation and during her time at university completed an intercalated degree in veterinary conservation medicine. She enjoys travelling and has previously volunteered as a vet at an Orang-utan reintroduction centre in Indonesia.
Tom Von Den Busch DVM MRCVS

More about Tom
Tom qualified from Ghent University in Belgium in 2002 and moved immediately to the UK. He has worked in small animal practice in Norfolk and Hertfordshire, as well as doing work in an out-of-hours emergency clinic for 6 months. He joined Animates in December 2012.
Tom is particularly interested in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, cardiology and ultrasound.
In his spare time his dog and the vegetable garden keep him busy, as well as clearing up the kitchen after spending hours cooking and baking.

More about Sarah
Sarah qualified from Cambridge University in 2006 and has since been working in small animal and exotic first opinion and referral practice. She started at Animates in December 2012.
Sarah is a RCVS recognised specialist in Zoo and Wildlife medicine and has the RCVS Certificate, Advanced Veterinary Practice in Zoo Medicine and the RCVS Diploma in Zoo Medicine (Reptilian).
Her interest in exotic species started at an early age and prior to embarking on her veterinary degree Sarah gained a BSc (Honours) degree in Zoology. She has travelled and worked at various Zoos and Animal Parks in the UK, Australia and South Africa.
Sarah has been involved with RSPCA rabbit and reptile clinics. She is a member of the British Veterinary Zoological Society and is an advisor for the Invertebrate Health Working Group for British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquaria. She has a wide range of professional interests including exotic surgery and medicine.
Outside of work Sarah enjoys walking her two dogs and travelling.
Jessica Regosz DrMedVet MRCVS
More about Jessica
Jessica is originally from France and qualified from the St Istvan University in Budapest in 2007. When she qualified Jessica moved to the UK and has worked in practices in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire before joining Animates in April 2017.
She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, with a particular interest in surgery and dermatology.
When not at work, she enjoys travelling, swimming and the company of good friends.
Julie Vandekerckove MVetMed MRCVS
More about Julie
Julie qualified from Ghent University in Belgium in February 2017. During her studies she joined an exchange program to work with wildlife in Malaysia. Before she moved to the UK and started at Animates in September 2017 she performed some locum work in small animal practices in Belgium. Her main interest is exotic animal medicine and she is fascinated by reptiles and amphibians.
In her spare time Julie enjoys spending time with her pet cornsnake, travelling and being in company of friends and family.
Kath O’Boyle BVSc CertVOphthal MRCVS
More about Kath
Kath graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2001 before working in a mixed animal practice in Shropshire for three years. It was here that the interest in surgery and eyes began, starting with her own diabetic dog that required cataract surgery. She then travelled to the USA to undertake a veterinary ophthalmology internship at Michigan State University.
Kath was awarded the RCVS certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2009. She has worked at various small animal practices in the UK, as well as taking a career break to look after her four children while she was living in the USA. Kath has recently come back to work and has been with the team at Animates since May 2018.
She is currently working towards the RCVS advanced practitioner status in veterinary ophthalmology.
Laura Berenguer MRCVS
More about Laura
Laura qualified in Madrid’s Universidad Complutense in 2015. Before moving to the UK and joining the Animates team, she worked as the on-site veterinary surgeon in a wildlife rescue center in Costa Rica for nearly three years. There she gained experience with primates, toucans, parrots, sloths, anteaters and a large variety of other birds of prey and mammals.
Since a young age Laura has known that she wanted to dedicate herself to working with exotic pets and wildlife. She has also been a herpetology hobbyist for over a decade. What she enjoys most about the veterinary medicine profession besides being able to work with exotics is orthopaedic surgery, especially in birds and small mammals.
In her free time she enjoys travelling around the world, spending time with her best friends, doing herpetological expeditions to observe reptiles and amphibians in the wild, as well as keeping aquariums and terrariums at home.

From a young age Alice knew she wanted to work with animals and before starting at Animates she spent a year at college studying the level 3 extended diploma in animal management. She then decided that veterinary nursing was the career path that she wanted to follow and started working at Animates in March 2016. She completed a year as a Veterinary Care Assistant before enrolling on the veterinary nursing course.
In her spare time she used to take part in athletics and has competed at regional level in high jump and shot putt. She has been county champion in multiple events.
She has four rabbits; Lola, Arthur, Harry and Frankie.
Chelsey Surgenor BSc(Hons)
More about Chelsey
Originally from Northern Ireland, Chelsey joined Animates in September 2017 after travelling for 18 months. In this time she visited 15 countries. She began her veterinary nurse training in January 2018.
Chelsey has an honours degree in zoo biology, and has a passion for wildlife.
After working in practices in Australia and the UK Chelsey is looking forward to settling down in Lincolnshire with her fiancé Matt. At home she has a Bengal cat called Zuma, a terrier cross called Django and a cocker spaniel called Kiwi. Outside of work Chelsey enjoys walking, nature photography, travelling and visiting family and friends.
More about Rachael
Rachael joined Animates in December 2016. She is originally from Shrewsbury. Before coming to Animates Rachael has worked at other Veterinary practices for 15 years. She plans to enrol at college in 2018 on a level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing course so she can achieve her goal of becoming a veterinary nurse.
In her spare time she likes running, riding her bike and spending time with her husband and 2 sons who are also keen bikers and runners. She has an elderly long-haired cat called Pete.
More about Robyn
Robyn has completed an Animal Management level 3 extended diploma. This led her to make the decision to start her veterinary nurse training which she began in April 2018, joining Animates not long after in October 2018.
Robyn has grown up around horses and spends most of her spare time with her Argentinian polo pony called Mia. She also has a working cocker spaniel called Pickle.
She also enjoys walking and her favourite place to go is the Lake District.
More about Sharni
Sharni has recently moved back home after three years in Scotland where she worked as a wildlife rehabilitator and a Veterinary Care Assistant. She was absolutely thrilled to be offered a position at Animates so she can pursue her dream care career in nursing. She has a special interest in exotics, with a soft spot for rabbits in particular, having three cheeky bunnies of her own at home.
Outside of work, when she isn’t chasing after her bunnies, she enjoys reading BBC wildlife magazines, listening to and playing music, watersports and travelling.
More about Emma
Emma has been working as a veterinary receptionist since 2016 and started her nurse training in September 2019. This was something she has wanted to do for a long time. She joined the Animates team in December 2019. At home, she has a beautiful but sassy cat called Louie and a very excitable cocker spaniel called Bella. She enjoys keeping fit and is currently training for her first tough mudder this year.

More about Janice
Originally from Cambridgeshire, Janice has lived and worked locally for a number of years and joined Animates in April 2013. She particularly enjoys the fact that after working here for several years she has got to know many of our clients and their pets well.
Janice is married to Martin and they live in Kirkby Underwood with their Patterdale Terrier, Boris. As a member of the Rotary Club of Bourne St Peter, Janice is actively involved in the community and participates in various projects in her village. In her spare time Janice enjoys reading, gardening, cooking and walking Boris in the local countryside.
More about Lyn
Lyn moved to Lincolnshire in 2017. Having spent 25 years working in finance Lyn decided to change her career and was excited to join the Animates Team in November 2017.
Lyn enjoys the fact that every day is different, and she likes the supportive environment and team spirit at Animates. She has also found it interesting meeting exotic species that she hadn’t come into contact with before working here.
Lyn is a lifelong animal lover and a keen amateur photographer, and particularly enjoys photographing animals, nature and wildlife.”
More about Barbara
Barbara joined our team as a part-time Receptionist after a long career in marketing and PR in corporate organisations and her own consultancy business. She lives in Bourne with her partner, Phil and daughter Molly and is the owner of mini long-haired Dachshund, Hector and a cat Sabrina.
Barbara continues to enjoy writing for pleasure and professionally. Perhaps working for Animates will inspire a novel in the future! Her other interests include raising awareness of blood and organ donation, knitting for charity, walking (she is a member of a walking group in London) and pilates.
More about Tracey
Tracey was born in London and grew up in Peterborough. She now lives in Tallington. Tracey started working at Animates in September 2019. As an animal lover, she had always dreamed of working in a veterinary practice. Tracey doesn’t currently have any animals but growing up, had a cat, 2 parrots a cockatiel, and a syrian hamster (but not all at the same time)
Tracey’s interests are arts and crafts, visiting art galleries, going to live music and comedy shows, films and reading. She has exhibited her own art work in a local arts centre and sells her paintings occasionally.
More about Bethany
Bethany studied Animal management at the Cambridge College of West Anglia and previously worked for a major phone network for four years. After having her little boy in July 2018, she decided she wanted a change of career and realised a part-time receptionist role at Animates would be a great opportunity, joining us in October 2019.
When she’s not entertaining her son, Bethany enjoys reading fiction novels or catching up on her favourite soaps in the evenings. She has recently started to enjoy baking but says she still can’t cook very well!
Bethany has a firm interest in exotic animals and in the past has been involved in looking after a snake, leopard Gecko and Blue tongued skink as well as her families two rabbits, two cats and dog.

More about Emma
Emma grew up in Thurlby, and used to enjoy riding horses around the area. She now lives in Bourne with her fiancé and twin daughters, born July 2012. Emma previously worked as a customer service manager for a mailing company and she joined Animates March 2013.
Emma particularly enjoys the fact that her job gives her the opportunity to interact with many people. Emma is our Support Manager organising the administrative activities that facilitate the smooth running of the business. In addition, she deals with general queries, looks after our Pet Care Plans, Accounts and Payroll and helps on reception.
Most of her spare time is spent entertaining her children and enjoying family days out. She also enjoys gardening and D.I.Y. as well as a recently discovered interest in restoring furniture.
