Does your dog ever behave inappropriately?

Behaviour Services

Does your dog ever behave inappropriately? Is your cat causing you concern? Animates Veterinary Clinic now offers a choice of Behavioural Packages to our clients with Laura Stone. Laura is a qualified clinical animal behaviourist and registered dog trainer having graduated with an MSc from Lincoln University in 2013 and the APDT in 2015. We offer 2 different options.

Our primary consultation is suited to clients whose animals are showing mild behavioural concerns, for example:

  • hyperactivity
  • mild noise phobias
  • inappropriate toileting
  • training difficulties e.g. house training, play biting

Clients will receive a Behaviour Questionnaire to complete and return to the practice prior to the consultation either via post, in person or by e-mail. The questionnaire will be reviewed by our Clinical Behaviourist and will form the basis of the primary consultation.

This package will offer basic advice and guidance based on how best to work on the problem behaviour, or provide alternative training techniques. Clients are advised to bring writing equipment to take notes away.

The animal does not have to be present during this session, however, video footage would be advantageous if necessary in order to better interpret the dog's behaviour and any underlying emotional cause.

Duration: 30 minutes

This behaviour package is designed for animals showing moderate to severe behavioural concerns, for example:

  • aggression
  • reactivity
  • behaviours stemming from fear and/or anxiety

Due to the nature of these behaviours a comprehensive behaviour consultation is required in order to ensure an accurate diagnosis.

Clients will receive a Behaviour Questionnaire to complete and return to the practice prior to the consultation either via post, in person or by e-mail. The questionnaire will be reviewed by our Clinical Behaviourist and will form part of the behaviour consultation.

This service also includes a 1-2 hour comprehensive Behaviour Consultation which will take place at the practice with the animal and as many family members as possible, video footage analysis, and discussion on prognosis and diagnosis.

A written report with a Behaviour Modification Programme will be provided to the client.

Duration: 1-2 hours

Appointments are available on request depending on availability of our Clinical Behaviourist.

Before any behaviour consultation can take place, the animal must first have seen a vet for a health check in order to rule out any health related influences.
