As you may be aware periodontal disease is one of the most common conditions we see in practice. By the age of three years up to 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have signs of dental problems.
Animates is offering a special fixed price for your pet to have their teeth cleaned until Feb 28th 2011.

Sometimes we discover a tooth that needs to be extracted only when we have
removed the tartar covering it. In these cases a charge of £12 for cats and
£15 for dogs per tooth will need to be applied as they take time to remove.
If your pet’s mouth is particularly bad, for example there is infection present,
multiple damaged or rotten teeth then this offer will not apply. This is due to
the extra medication such as antibiotics and pain relief that will be necessary
afterwards. Our intention is that the offer is treated like your own dental
Hygienist appointments; a chance to remove tartar build up and implement
a homecare regime made more effective by starting with sparkling teeth and fresh breath!
The second part of this special offer is 10% off the cost of any preventative
homecare products bought from us on the day of the Scale and Polish or at
the post-operative check a week later. We recommend a homecare regime
for the same reasons that we brush our teeth; to prevent the build up of
plaque and the bacteria that cause bad breath. Of course brushing is the most
effective method to prevent this, but for those pets who don’t like having their
teeth brushed there are many other options.

Royal Canin Dental Diet
This is specially formulated to remove plaque as your pet chews; the unique
structure ensures that the tooth sinks right into the kibble before it breaks up.
It cleans each tooth with each bite! It also contains Sodium Tripolyphosphate
which binds salivary calcium so it is unavailable to build into tartar. It is a
complete diet suitable for cats and dogs from adulthood onwards.
Royal Canin Oral Bars
These are highly palatable chews, designed with a unique shape. The large
surface area gently scrubs your dogs teeth during chewing. The packs of
seven are ideal for giving one a day- a treat with a special function!
Ostrich Chews
These chews have an excellent flossing effect on the teeth, they do not get
soggy and are mess free. Dogs love them and they are relatively cheap to
buy. They also have zero calories-perfect for dogs watching their waistlines!
Vet Aquadent and Dentagen
A solution added to the drinking water on a daily basis and is suitable for both
dogs and cats. It contains Chlorhexidine, an effective anti-plaque agent and
Xylitol which limits the build up of bacteria, plaque and tartar resulting in fresh
breath and a healthy mouth. An alternative to Vet Aquadent is Dentagen, it
works in a different way but some pets may prefer the taste.
Oral Hygiene Rinse
The rinse is gently squirted into the corner of the mouth once or twice a day
and contains ZincChlorhexidate to inhibit plaque and tartar formation and
freshen breath
Special Toothbrushes and Toothpaste
We have a range to choose from and most dogs will readily accept brushing
if they are introduced to it gradually. We have a written information sheet that
gives you step by step instructions.
